Friday 10th February

As many busy women will confirm, a full day at the office in high heeled shoes, while making one look smart, sharp and business like, at the end of the long working day will result in neglected and aching feet which have had to bear the brunt of power dressing.
While many seek solace in a well deserved foot bath, a welcome foot massage from a devoted partner and possibly even a much deserved G&T!, there is still the inevitability of another day in those stilettos and the certainty of the pain that follows.
While there have been products developed to assist with this daily problem, such as in shoe products like Scholl’s Party Feet TM (SSL international ltd) there has until recently been no long term solution to this problem, especially if affecting a difficult area such as toes and bunions.
Augmented silicone injection therapy, is manufactured by Extremity Innovations Ltd, a medical devices manufacturer based in Tennessee, USA.
The injectable silicone fluid is deposited to the deeper tissues under the skin of the affected part of the foot, in effect providing increased cushioning and support of the soft tissues, and reducing pressure on the bone and thereby reducing foot pain.
The procedure is undertaken following injection of a local anaesthetic; therefore the procedure is pain free.
The procedure can be undertaken in less than one hour, making it ideal to pop from the office in the lunch break. Following the procedure you can return to work provided you rest your foot as much as possible for the rest of the day, and follow your clinicians’ advice.
It is sometimes necessary to have a repeat injection of silicone therapy after 6 – 12 weeks, and occasionally a third and final injection is recommended, depending on the severity and location of the pain.
This safe and effective therapy can be utilised where there is reduction of cushioning over an area of the foot, or where high impact sports cause pain in particular areas such as the ball of the foot under the big toe.
So next time when you arrive home, let the G&T be for pleasure only, as your foot pain will be a distant memory!
