Physiotherapy in London
At HFS, we like to think our physiotherapy specialists offer a little more than others can. We have proactively sought to recruit clinicians who think a certain way, and have a passion for developing their physiotherapy skills in line with our clinical philosophy.
Physiotherapists at HFS Clinics are trained to approach a patient’s problem with the mindset of not only accurately diagnosing the nature and severity of a problem, but also identifying its underlying cause(s). By treating the underlying cause of a problem rather than just its symptoms the problem is more likely to get better (and more quickly), and importantly less likely to recur. It’s about prevention of recurrence and cure.
This unique approach is multi-faceted. ‘Hands-on’ techniques are used to reduce pain and increase movement in the short-term, but the key to fixing the underlying cause and achieving a long-term solution is specific exercises to correct posture and rehabilitate muscle function and movement control. Whilst physiotherapy as a profession is criticised for not using enough active exercise as an integral part of treatment, physiotherapists at HFS Clinics excel at it.
Treating the underlying cause effectively often means addressing other relevant issues which fall outside the realms of traditional physiotherapy. Lower limb problems are often driven by faulty foot mechanics and need a Podiatrist’s input while spinal problems commonly have their origins in poor workstation setup and as such require an Ergonomic Assessment. But with all of these services under one roof then help is close to hand.
So how does physiotherapy work?
We allocate 45 minutes for your first appointment. It is important we take time to listen to what you have to say about the problem and to understand how it affects you. We then carefully and thoroughly examine the problem enabling us to come to an accurate diagnosis. This initial appointment includes some treatment time as we want to make sure you start feeling better right from day one.
Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes, and dependant on the nature of the problem may involve some time in a treatment room or in our fully equipped rehabilitation gym. At the end of your session we are happy for you to stay and use the facilities to practice exercises, in fact we encourage it.
Sometimes treating the underlying cause may involve calling on the skills of other practitioners. But with physiotherapists well versed in sports massage techniques and Ergonomic Workstation Assessments, as well as Podiatry, and Chiropody, all under one roof
At some stage during the treatment process involvement of other members of the Health and Fitness Solutions team may also be needed. For example it is well established that many lower limb injuries are in part driven by faulty foot mechanics, but with a Podiatrist just a few doors away under the same roof getting their expert help to address this part of the problem isn’t that difficult.
Our clinics are located at Aldgate, Moorgate and Harley Street in the City of London and the West End. We also offer a variety of health and fitness solutions for different pains and sport related injuries. Contact us now to take an appointment for a physiotherapy session.
