Always better than cure and this is particularly important for desk based workers. The arms are designed to go above the head, but in everyday life how many times do we lift our shoulders right up? Not many is the answer and the muscles of the upper shoulder region work all day to hold the arms and head in one position.
The most important activity to prevent shoulder pain is to get those arms moving above your head, any movement is good. Light weights at the gym, an elaborate stretch regime, swimming and exercise classes are all good activities to help keep the shoulders healthy.
If you are concerned about your shoulders then come and see one of our physios for a session where they highlight any weaknesses and give you an exercise programme that is specific to you and fits in with your current lifestyle.
