Trauma to the hands is relatively common as our reaction to risks and threats is to raise our hands to protect the head, face and body.

In our work, sporting or leisure pursuits the hands are asked to perform the same task over and over again. This improves our dexterity and ability to perform but the high levels of repetition place strain on the tendons, muscles and nerves of the wrist and hand. This is compounded by the small amount of space available to fit all the bones, muscles and nerves in so the wrist and hand are particularly susceptible to one tissue rubbing against another leading to inflammatory conditions.
